In the time that we've been producing our trees each and every year we've been very interested in
what people's thoughts and verdicts are to the artificial trees.
Now as a grower and producer of premium quality trees you would expect us to promote the "real tree"
but lets take a quick look at what we've found out are the reasons for some people dragging that old crumpled plastic
"tree" from the attic year after year. As we go through the points, which we found out in a survey, we'll hopefully convince
you into having a more natural, beautifully scented and eco friendly christmas.
- It's a lot less mess, you don't have to hoover up when bringing it and when taking it back out again.
All our trees, and most other christmas tree retailers also, once selected are netted for easy
transportation and erection within your home.
- It doesn't drop its needles and you dont have to water it twice a day just to keep it upright.
There is only one breed of christmas tree that we would advise as your "outside tree" due to its needle
drop but apart from that all of our other varieties are harvested in a way that they retain their needles for well over the
holiday peroid.
- they never smell of anything so what is the point.
When choosing your christmas tree advice will be given on how to maximize the natural scent, from
scoring the bark slightly to bursting the blisters on the trunk.
- If it falls over thats a whole christmas worth of presents ruined, water everywhere.
We've all experienced this in one way or another so many componies have devised a way of keeping your
tree upright with the minimal amount of fuss in doing so. We have many products and advice on this.
- It's just so much less fuss with an artificial tree.
The main problem with artificial trees is in the title, artificial. Once you feel they've served their
time they end up for years upon years on a landfill site. They are made from a plastic which in it's production gives out
tonnes of poisonous gasses into the atmosphere and then whilst on the landfill site, they give off yet more gasses as the
bed down into the ground. It would take around 30 years for an artificial tree to break up in the ground and doubtfull that
you'd ever lose trace if it.
With a real tree there are a number of ways to dispose of it after the holiday period.
- If you go for the rooted tree, plant it in your garden or local forestry site.
- Take it to your nearest waste transfer station where they'll put it with all the other garden waste
for composting.
- Many areas are now offering a chipping service (some have a collection service with this) where they'll
take away and chip it.
Whichever you chose out of these options you'll always be happy in the knowledge that your last tree,
after the holiday period was put to yet another fantastic use be it purifying the air by re-planting or composting by
chipping it.
